Freedom – Cultural Offering

Cultured Kurt offers some 4th of July quotes on the subject of freedom; from Aristotle to P.J. O’Rourke.

I was particularly struck by O’Rourke railing against the conflation of “freedom” with “rights”:

“Freedom … [is] not an endlessly expanding list of rights — the ‘right’ to education, the ‘right’ to food and housing. That’s not freedom, that’s dependency. Those aren’t rights, those are the rations of slavery — hay and a barn for human cattle. “
