Let us have integrity – @execupundit

Michael Wade at Execupundit gives a great quote from John Adams:

“Let us have integrity and not write checks with our tongues which our conduct cannot cash.”

Fantastic words to live by and a great use of rhetoric: “not write checks with our tongues which our conduct cannot cash.”  Absolutely beautiful.

This quotation is from an address in 1978 by Neal A. Maxwell. You have it connected with John Adams (who was also a major exemplar of integrity…)

Hi Gela, I think you may be right. I’ve had a quick check on Google and the only sources attributing this to John Adams are mine and Michael Wade’s, which is where I first saw it. Apologies all, it looks like this is from Neal A Maxwell.
